I recall at the age of 7 years hearing songs like \"Great King Rat\", and \"Liar\", not to mention all of the songs off of this and all of their great pre-80\'s/non-suck records and being adamantly convinced that Freddie Mercury, Brian May, John Deacon(or in this case Deacon John), and Roger Taylor were the coolest band that could or ever would exist in the entire history of rock n\' roll, music, or just the world in general. I mean, how could a band, or musicians living, or otherwise be as AMAZING as these guys. From the owming palm mute riff of \"Keep Yourself Alive\", to the sweet heavenly fade of \"Seven Seas of Rhye\", I was simply in awe, and perhaps at times scared in a fascinating sort of way at these ten abstractly amazing pieces. Some non-fans, or even more casual takers-in of Queen\'s catalog might not \"get\" this record. For them I might recommend \"News of the World\", or the revered \"Night of the Opera\", to suit their listening pleasure. But this record still entrances me with it\'s abstract themes, and even more abstract yet masterfully crafted composition. Brian May\'s guitar harmonies on \"The Night Comes Down\", \"Liar\", \"Son and Daughter\", \"Keep yourself Alive\", and the opening measure of \"My Fairy King\" still send chills down my spine. Some of complex vocal work on this one(as always, by Queen Standards) are simply phenomenal, and \"Great King Rat\" is haunting and epic in it\'s tale of a mysterious scoundrel, who would mislead the people. Whether the basis of this tale is purely imagined fantasy or figurative for something real or documented in world theology is uncertain to me even now, but it certainly is captivating.

Queen\'s first album...they don\'t write em\' like that anymore

Queen's first album was a really great start any band could wish for. Though it held no real big hits it still worth more credit than it's usually given and definatly should be apart of any rock collection,
