"Someplace Else" and "Breath Away From Heaven" were songs from the Hand-Made film entitled "Shanghai Surprise" (the two bonus cuts "Shanghai Surprise" and "Zig Zag" also came from this movie). The movie was considered a flop although it starred Madonna and Sean Penn during their brief marriage, and from what I have read the ordeal of having to work with those two was a bitter experience for Mr. Harrison, who abandoned Hand-Made Films soon afterward. That's funny to me, since I rather enjoyed the movie and found Madonna to be as close to likeable as she ever has been... Anyway, "Someplace Else" is the love theme written for the couple and turns out to be quite a beautiful, sensitive song. George Harrison's name is not readily associated with love songs, but he has written some of the finest that I have ever heard ("I Need You", "Something", "If I Needed Someone", "Behind That Locked Door", "Beautiful Girl", "Our Love is Forever", "Soft Touch", "Mystical One", etc.--quite an impressive list!) | Bruce Beatlefan | May 3, 2007 |
