Average song rating The songs on "Revolver" and following albums reveal a marked change in John Lennon's writing. He abruptly quits on the introspective Dylan-style writing (he picks it up again with his "Imagine" album) and, perhaps due to increased use of drugs, begins writing fascinating stream-of-conscousness songs which are seemingly wrapped around the most trivial snippets of ideas. That phase begins with this song, inspired by a LSD-induced comment from Henry Fonda which infuriated John. My understanding is that this wonderful layers of guitars was accomplished solely by John and George--Paul was not present at the mastering of this track. Bruce Beatlefan May 6, 2006

Lyrics

She said I know what it's like to be dead
I know what it is to be sad
And she's making me feel like I've never been born.

I said "Who put all those things in your hair
Things that make me feel that I'm mad
And you're making me feel like I've never been born."

She said "you don't understand what I said"
I said "No, no, no, you're wrong"
When I was a boy everything was right
Everything was right

I said "Even though you know what you know
I know that I'm ready to leave
'Cause you're making me feel like I've never been born."

She said "you don't understand what I said"
I said "No, no, no, you're wrong"
When I was a boy everything was right
Everything was right

I said "Even though you know what you know
I know that I'm ready to leave
'Cause you're making me feel like I've never been born."

She said I know what it's like to be dead
I know what it is to be sad...
