South Bay Surfer

Average song rating This the Stephen Foster folk song "The Old Folks at Home" (aka "Swanee River") with a Beach Boys set of lyrics that declare the surfers from the South Bay section of L.A. to be triumphant. The song, significantly, is not harmonized but sung in one voice, as though declared from the back of a convertable, rather like a school fight song. It could, I suppose, be regarded as filler material, but the feelings evoked from this song are powerful and make it worthwhile. Bruce Beatlefan January 14, 2008

Lyrics

Look out here come those South Bay surfers
California's gettin' hot
There they go cruisin' down that coastline
Lookin' for their favorite spot

We'll find the big one

Oh the boys are rough and
Ready to handle anything

They take the big one

They've got to be the best thing going
South Bay surfers really swing

Okay rock out

Oh Chicago can't you hear them
Hear that shore pound slam

(You're gonna eat it)
(Smash!)

It rumbles clear to New York City
Detroit back to old Miam
Philly back to Alabam

You'll catch them surfing
