You Gave Me the Answer

Average song rating I'm not sure why Paul keeps bothering us with songs like When I'm 64, Honey Pie and this tune. It's not bad and actually has a great melody line in my opinion, but the arrangement in top hat twenties style is not my piece of cake. I prefer the more rockier version of this song on Wings Over America. Especially Paul's ad libs like 'Shall we dance?' are a pain in the ass.

Average song rating Paul McCartney's composing career is liberally sprinkled with these vaudvilly/show tunes, from "When I'm 64" and "Baby's Request" all the way down to "English Tea". "You Gave Me the Answer" is certainly not as well-known as the others, but rates as one of the better ones. Bruce Beatlefan June 2, 2006

Lyrics

You gave me the answer
To love eternally.
I love you and - you,
You seem to like me.

Wherever we wander
The local folk agree,
I love you and - you,
You seem to like me.

Heading back to old familiar places,
Places where the cobwebs blow away
I can forget the airs and graces

Terpsichory ...

You'll never be crowned by
The aristocracy,
To their delight, you'd merely invite
Them in for a cup of tea ... And
I love you and - you
You seem to like
You seem to like
You seem to like
Me.
