Waterfalls

Average song rating Ridiculous lyrics in a love song. That's some kind of experiment. When you don t take too much notice of the silly verses, what's left is a good ballad. The keyboards in the far background create a nice atmosphere. Listen to that in the choruses for example. The acoustic guitar at 1.00 is a nice addition. Paul's voice sounds as if he's going to break any moment. Great low synthbass starting at 2.12. Love that, never noticed that before. I could well live without the last verse (Don't run after motorcars), the point is pretty clear by then. I always felt that Paul is trying to cover up a mistake in the bass at 3.58. Average song rating I kind of get the idea that the 1980's were tough years for Paul and Linda's marriage, judging by this song and a few others ("The Pound is Sinking", "On the Way", "Wanderlust", even the crazed "To You"). This is a difficult song to figure out...it doesn't really work as a ballad, although it is sung that way, because the melody is so odd. Paul sings in a voice indicating that he fells deeply about the lyrics (it sound like he's pleading for Linda to not jump ship) but the metaphors he uses (jumping waterfalls and chasing polar bears) are just too bizarre to be effective. It sounds like Paul worked extremely hard to make this a good song--it was released unsuccessfully as a single--and simply came up short. Bruce Beatlefan July 5, 2006

Lyrics

Don't go jumping waterfalls,
Please, keep to the lake.
People who jump waterfalls,
Sometimes can make mistakes.

And I need love,
Yeah, I need love,
Like a second needs an hour,
Like a raindrop needs a shower.
Yeah, I need love,
Ev'ry minute of the day,
And it wouldn't be the same
If you ever should decide to go away.

And I need love,
Yeah, I need love,
Like a castle needs a tower,
Like a garden needs a flower.
Yeah, I need love
Ev'ry minute of the day,
And it wouldn't be the same
If you ever should decide to go away

Don't go chasing polar bears
In the great unknown.
Some big friendly polar bear,
Might want to take you home.

And I need love,
Yeah, I need love,
Like a second needs an hour,
Like a raindrop needs a shower.
Yeah, I need love
Ev'ry minute of the day,
And it wouldn't be the same
If you ever should decide to go away.

Don't run after motor cars,
Please, stay on the side.
Someone's glossy motor car
Might take you for a ride.

And I need love,
Yeah, I need love,
Like a castle needs a tower,
Like a garden needs a flower.
Yeah, I need love,
Said, I need love,
Like a raindrop needs a shower,
Like a second needs an hour.
Ev'ry minute of the day,
And it wouldn't be the same
If you ever should decide to go away

Don't go jumping waterfalls,
Please. Keep to the lake.
