Average song rating Paul redoing Yesterday, and not only with a wink in the title. As we all know, this song is dedicated to John Lennon and for that reason it deserves much credit. Pauls voice sounds like he could break any moment and that's a quality as well. What can I say? An awesome song but maybe the weight and symbolism of it makes it a little too much of it all. Always loved the cello starting at 1.21 and the violins at 1.36. Bobber July 7, 2012
Average song rating It is very unusual for Paul McCartney to bare his soul in this way; it is a treat when he does so. Moreover, Paul's lifetime struggle, even from his Beatles days, has always been in the kind of poignant, powerful lyrics that seemed to come so easy and natural for John Lennon. So it is special that Paul's own tribute to his friend succeeded so well in both counts. This is a lovely, sensitive memorial. Bruce Beatlefan July 21, 2006

Lyrics

And if I say I really knew you well,
What would your answer be?
If you were here today.
Uh, uh, uh, here today.

Well, knowing you,
You'd probably laugh and say
That we were worlds apart.
If you were here today.
Uh, uh, uh, here today.

But as for me,
I still remember how it was before
And I am holding back the tears no more.
Uh, uh, uh,
I love you, uh.

What about the time we met? (what about the time?)
Well, I suppose that you could say
That we were playing hard to get.
Didn't understand a thing,
But we could always sing.

What about the night we cried? (what about the night)
Because there wasn't any reason
Left to keep it all inside.
Never understood a word,
But you were always there with a smile.

And if I say I really loved you
And was glad you came along.
Then you were here today,
Uh, uh, uh, for you were in my song.

Uh, uh, uh, here today.
