Wanderlust

Average song rating Paul at the piano. Sounds like a classic melody. Anyone who loves Let It Be will probably love this one as well. Once again well produced with a great overall sound. Drums a little too bombastic maybe; the style of the 80s. There's the brass section again at 1.33. All very fine, but not my piece of cake.

Average song rating A splendid and majestic melody, the type of which would sound fitting for a decorous event such as a coronation or a military revue. George Martin and Paul match the stirring melody with impressive, dramatic horns. Paul's vocal is remaarkable: high, rich, and powerful, sounding almost like one of the horns himself. Paul's lifetime struggle has always been suitable lyrics, and the lyrics for this song are a tremendous letdown, turning this beautiful song into a petty complaint that he couldn't smoke his reefer on the Wanderlust schooner (on which some of the London Town album was recorded). Lyrics

Light out wanderlust,
Head us out to sea.
Captain says there'll be a bust,
This one's not for me.

Take us from the dark,
Out where we can see.
Captain's out to make his mark,
This one's not to be.

Light out wanderlust,
Help us to be free.
Light out wanderlust,
Do it just for me, wanderlust.

Oh, where did I go wrong, my love?
What petty crime was I found guilty of?
What better time to find a brand new day?
Oh, wanderlust away.

Light out wanderlust,
Help us to be free.
Light out wanderlust,
Do it just for me, wanderlust.

Captain's out to make his mark,
This one's not to be.

Light out wanderlust
(oh, where did I go wrong, my love?)
Head us out to sea
(what petty crime was I found guilty of?)
Captain says there'll be a bust
(what better time to find a brand new day?)
This one's not for me
(oh, wanderlust away)

Dropping a line,
Maybe this time
It's wanderlust for me.
