Average song rating Paul McCartney's musical library is liberally sprinkled with ventures into some style of American black music; from Venus and Mars ("Call Me Back Again") onwards it seems to occupy a single choice track, although I'm hard-pressed to identify such a track on his Chaos and Creation CD (I suppose one could imagine Smokey soulfully offering "This Never Happened to Me Before").

"Back in the Sunshine Again" is, for me, remarkably reminiscent of the old Porgy and Bess spiritual classic "Summertime" (which Paul covers in his Russian CD). A very well-crafted song and a moody, yearning performance. This song's excellence makes me wonder how much of the composition was contributed by the son James L. McCartney, as this would be quite a remarkable achievement for such an inexperienced songwriter.

Lyrics

Here we are
Back in the sunshine again
No more worries
And no more pain

We're leaving behind
All our troubles and strife
And that's the way it's gonna be
For the rest of my life

Here we are, here we are
Back in the sunshine again
No more worries, no more worries
And no more pain, no more pain

Life's too short, to spend it lonely
You only throw it away
Listen to your voice of reason, call it a day

Take a ride, take a ride
Out to the land of the free
Don't hurry take your time, take your time
Come and spend it with me

Back in the sunshine
Back in the sunshine

Here we are
Back in the sunshine again
No more worries, no more worries
And no more pain

Life's too short, to spend it lonely
You only throw it away
Listen to your voice of reason, call it a day

Here we are
Back in the sunshine again
No more worries, no more worries
And no more pain

Here we are
Back in the sunshine again
No more worries or pain
And no more pain

Back in the sunshine again
No more worries
Back in the sunshine again
