With a Little Luck

Average song rating The big hit on the album. Paul repeats the atmosphere of London Town here at the start of side 2. It's a nice song, with great harmonies and all that, but it has never really worked for me. I mean, I can listen to it and enjoy it, but it doesn't make a bad day good. Plus I think it takes too long. At the 3.40 point it's enough for me. The rest isn't necessary, although Paul finally shows some great basslicks here.

Average song rating You've probably seen the bumper sticker that reads something like "Ginger Rogers danced all of Fred Astaire's steps backwards, and in high heels!". No, Linda McCartney was not Paul McCartney, nor did she ever try to be. But singing backing harmonies IS more difficult than singing the melody (if you sing along with the music you play, you will know that is true), and while lead vocals can be "artistically" flat or nasal or whatever, backing vocals by their very nature have to be flawless, or else there is no reason to have them.

Linda has been insensitively placed on the dock throughout her career for a few times she has been off-key (very few times, and very early in her involvement--McCartney and Ram), but before you write her off, check out "With a Little Luck". She and Denny Laine are damned terrific. Check out "Daytime Nighttime Suffering". Check out "Medicine Jar". Check out "Summer's Day Song". Check out everything from McCartney to Flaming Pie. This was a photographer and a mom who could sing a little.

Lyrics

With a little luck, we can help it out.
We can make this whole damn thing work out.
With a little love, we can lay it down.
Can't you feel the town exploding?

There is no end to what we can do together.
There is no end, there is no end.
The willow turns his back on inclement weather;
And if he can do it, we can do it, just me and you,

And a little luck, we can clear it up.
We can bring it in for a landing,
With a little luck, we can turn it on.
There can be no misunderstanding.

There is no end to what we can do together.
There is no end, there is no end.
The willow turns his back on inclement weather;
We can do it, just me and you.

With a little push, we could set it off.
We can send it rocketing skywards.
With a little love, we could shake it up.
Don't you feel the comet exploding?

With a little luck.
With a little luck.
With a little luck, a little luck, a little luck.
With a little luck.
With a little luck.
With a little luck, a little luck, a little luck.
