Give My Regards to Broadstreet

Well, you've got to give Paul McCartney credit for having the courage of his convictions--and the heroism to occasionally fall spectacularly flat on his face pursuing them. The parallel here is Magical Mystery Tour, the half-baked 1967 Beatles TV film that was largely McCartney's conceit. Seventeen years later McCartney figured his solo star power could carry a film vehicle, and so concocted this odd caper tale about the race to find the stolen master tapes to Mac's latest solo album; suffice it to say few critics were assigned to the case. If faint praise is in order, the album is a less painful experience than the film. Still, one has to wonder what drove Mac to rerecord a slate of his best Beatles tunes--along with some of his most tepid solo songs--for this misbegotten star turn. Still, ill conceived though they may be, the performances are stellar throughout, featuring an all-star band that includes old mate Ringo and turns by guitarists Dave Edmunds, Dave Gilmour, and Chris Spedding, as well as contributions by George Martin, Steve Lukather, Jeff Porcaro, Eric Stewart, and John Paul Jones. Arguably McCartney's greatest "What was he thinking?!" project. -Jerry McCulley Reviews

Random thoughts on Paul McCartney's CD Give My Regards to Broadstreet:
(1) I never saw the movie. All the critics say not to, but those same critics told me to pay no attention to McCartney's post-Beatle career so they're probably all wet. (2) Three new songs (four if you count that closing-credit muzak, five if you count "Eleanor's Dream", which is reminiscent of George Martin's incidental movie music from Help et al.). "No More Lonely Nights" is a legitimate McCartney classic--superb (with much credit going to David Gilmour for a memorable guitar fadeout). The others, "Not Such a Bad Boy" and "No Values" are okay. (3) What is it with Paul McCartney and these dorky album covers?? Give My Regards... makes four in a row (McCartney II, Tug of War, Pipes of Peace) in which he looks clueless. Thank goodness he comes back to his senses for Press to Play, probably his best-ever cover. (4) Paul blows an opportunity to take some strong-but-obscure Wings tracks (like "Letting Go" or "Beware My Love") and bring them back to the limelight. The songs he chose hit me as too recent (Tug of War and Pipes of Peace tracks, less than two years old) or too safe (can't-miss Beatles classics). (5) Remember the Paul McCartney hue and cry over the Phil Spectorized "Long and Winding Road"? McCartney wanted to shoot the guy for adding the strings and the heavenly choir. Now Paul gets his shot to 'do it right'. And what do we get? Strings and a heavenly choir!! (6) Is this among my favorite Paul McCartney CD's? No. Am I sorry that I paid for it? No. It's cool.
i'm sorry but this album is great and i think anyone who can't say they enjoy it are far from being true mccartney fans and i'm pretty sure paul mccartney is very proud of this album as he should be.
I liked the movie and I liked the album.
I didn't like the movie and I don't like the album. The whole project was a disaster for Paul. I wish he didn't waste so much time in his career with this mess. I'm sure he wishes that too.
If you know this album you can review it.

Give my regards to Amazon ....If it's hard to get , they'll get it fast and in good condition !!
I love the music of Paul Mccartney, but this one is a great, great work!!
In the line of the Beatles work, this is a songtrack far beyond any expectations!! I love it.
I have been looking for this cd for quite a few years now, thank you amazon for having it! I saw the movie and had the "Album" (record) when I was stationed in the US Army working in Washington DC. I have wanted the cd for some time and now have it, I listen to it everyday, drives my husband and kids crazy! LOL.
Great CD of which I had the LP from years gone by. The use of French Horns, Trumpets and Trombones in many of the arrangements (especially Wanderlust) is fantastic. Put the CD on, crank up the sound and sit back and listen to a great album
This is a great compilation of Beatle and McCartney tunes. The movie was very enjoyable for a music lover. I bought the cassette in 1984 when it came out and this is my second CD. My son aquired my first CD.
