9/10 the shamrocker (May 26, 2005)
Insanely amazing double-album..... a collection of some of the Floyd's most mind-blowing and original music... simply perfect. Let's not forget that while a lot of this music does sound like the era that it came from (the 60's), no band could stand next to this one when it came to true psychelelia. A true tribute to the great Syd Barrett..... I recommend this to any fan of Pink Floyd, but especially to those fans who think their best music is found on DSOTM or The Wall.... if you want a true, immersive listening experience (lsd and oil projectors or not) , THIS IS IT!!!
6/10 Floyd Fan (June 24, 2004)
The best aspects of this compilation are the pictures of womens breasts on the cover and inside the jacket : ) All kidding aside though alot of this music is "extremely" dated, so much so that you can hear "the 60s" written allll over it. This is the same style of music they would play on old 'Dragnet' episodes to represent the hippies they were always busting. This was before Floyd matured to the Mega Band they would eventually become. They were just starting to grow their wings at this point, understanding exactly who they were and what they could do. Some of this stuff is decent(in a very Timothy Leary, make love not war, psychadelic sort of way) other songs on these albums are annoying at best only because they sound so outdated. If you still enjoy taking LSD while watching lava lamps fade into glowing black light posters, if you havent outgrown that signature "60s" sound yet, then this is the compilation for you. Grooovy Maaaan!...pretty much sums this one up perfectly.
