Victor Massé

(7 March 1822–5 July 1884)

Victor Massé (1822–1884) was a French Romantic composer known for his elegant opéra comique style. A Prix de Rome laureate, he wrote around twenty operas, including the popular Les Noces de Jeannette and Galathée. Celebrated in his time for melodic charm and theatrical clarity, his works today offer a refined glimpse into 19th-century French lyric opera.
